Richard A. Stieglitz Jr. is a member of Cahill's Bankruptcy & Restructuring practice. Rich advises debtors, creditors, potential investors and purchasers, equity sponsors, senior management and directors in commercial Chapter 11 cases and other restructuring and refinancing matters, including out-of-court workouts. In Chapter 11 proceedings, Rich has represented debtors in a variety of industries, including SP Newsprint Co., CB Holding Corp. (d/b/a Charlie Brown's Steakhouse, Bugaboo Creek Steak House, and The Office Beer Bar & Grill), Trico Marine Services, Orleans Homebuilders, Aurora Oil & Gas Corporation, Inc., Galey & Lord, Inc., Sure Fit, Inc., Inland Fiber Group, Inc., Complete Retreats, LLC (d/b/a Tanner & Haley Resorts), Anvil Knitwear, Inc., Guardian Entertainment, Ltd., and Pro Rhythm, Inc.
Rich has extensive experience handling distressed situations, including drafting, negotiating, and/or prosecuting plans of reorganization and related disclosure statements, DIP financing and similar arrangements, and purchase and sale agreements. He also routinely represents parties in defense of alleged preferential transfers and fraudulent conveyances.
In 2011, Rich was recognized by Turnarounds & Workouts as an "Outstanding Young Restructuring Lawyer". Rich routinely speaks on current bankruptcy trends and has written extensively on the subject, including articles published by the American Bankruptcy Institute Journal. Rich co-authored The Bankruptcy Strategist article S.D.N.Y. Endorses Commonly Used Procedures for Providing Adequate Assurance to Utility Providers and was featured in The New York Law Journal article Finding ‘a Berth at the Inn' for his pro bono achievements.
Rich is a member of the American Bankruptcy Institute and serves on the Executive Leadership Committee for the New York City Light the Night Walk for The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
