Confidence is the catch phrase of the season. China has once again proven itself to be a global giant by making 2007 the year of the IPO. “Biggest ever” begins to lose meaning as Citic Bank, Fosun International, and Alibaba.com list for billions of dollars on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange within months of each other. How big can China get?

This year HCR’s mission is to once again bring together eminent speakers who will lead us in looking at China’s growth beyond the bubble, by exploring the many ways we can build international confidence in the sustainability of our industries, economy and environment. As we form our panels, we hope to channel an outlook on China’s innovation capability and its ability to transform from a labor-intensive to knowledge–intensive nation.

Charlie Gilman will be a speaker Panelist at the 2008 Legal Malpractice Risk Management Conference. The leading conference discussing professional responsibility/lawyer liability in the nation, it offers In-house counsel and practitioners a high-quality program to stay abreast of current developments in the law and litigation of malpractice claims, legal malpractice insurance and risk management strategies.

Charlie will participate in the Panel Session "Guess Who's Coming to Sue You - A Case Study," which will explore how  firms may identify, prepare for and minimize the circumstances in which such claims may arise. The case studies will examine the needs for disclosures, and the perils and protection of intra-firm communications as these circumstances portend a serious risk of legal malpractice claims. Attendees may earn up to 13.50 hours of CLE credit, including up to 5.75 hours ethics credit.

Elai Katz will moderate a panel on vertical price fixing after the Supreme Court's Leegin decision at the Annual Antitrust Symposium at the New York State Bar Association's 2008 Annual Meeting. The Panel Session, "Resale Price Maintenance Post-Leegin," will explore the application of the Court's decision using a hypothetical resale price maintenance scenario. This year's panelists include: Richard Brunell, Senior Fellow & Director, Legal Advocacy - American Antitrust Institute, Michael Sibarium - Winston & Strawn LLP, James Yoon, Assistant Attorney General, Antitrust Bureau - New York State Attorney General's Office, Daniel M. Garrett, Ph.D, Vice President - Cornerstone Research and Suzanne Wachsstock, Chief Antitrust Counsel - American Express.

Bart Friedman will be participating on the Panel of ODX, The Outstanding Directors Exchange. The conference is for directors to exchange real-life experiences and solutions to the issues they face in the boardroom. ODX events are held in partnership with Columbia Business School Executive Education Program.

ODX will also be honoring independent directors of public companies who have been recognized by their peers for making a courageous or valuable contribution to the companies on whose boards they serve. Since its inception in 1998 the program has honored more than 80 corporate directors of American public companies. It operates under the rubric of The Outstanding Directors Exchange - the umbrella organization for the Outstanding Directors Awards and the ODX programs in corporate governance. Its mission is to support the educational needs of today's corporate board members.

Moving Beyond Compliance: The Effect of the New Rules on Corporate Boards

Bart Friedman has been selected to be a panelist in the 2007 AESC Americas Conference.

A panel of corporate directors, governance experts and search consultants will examine how the balance of power and rules of engagement are changing with the greater representation and involvement of independent directors. They will discuss a more strategic approach to board recruiting and will look at the new director profile. Panelists will comment on Board involvement with CEO compensation, succession planning and the relationship between boards and institutional shareholders.

The Operational Risk "C-Suite" breakfast is organized by the New York Chapter of the Professional Risk Managers' International Association (PRMIA) and hosted at the downtown offices of Nomura Securities International by Ms. Philippa Girling, Nomura's Global Co-Head of Operational Risk.
