Founded in 1919, Cahill quickly built a national reputation for excellence in the financial and corporate areas. During and after the Second World War under the leadership of John T. Cahill, the legendary former United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, we grew dramatically. Maintaining the strength of our innovative corporate law practice, we also came to be counted among the leading litigation firms in the nation. Today, we number nearly 285 lawyers and have offices in New York, Washington D.C. and London.
Many of the world's largest companies and leading investment and commercial banks trust Cahill to help them maximize opportunities and provide effective solutions in "bet the company" litigation challenges. Our practice is widely recognized for its know-how, particularly in matters involving corporate, tax and litigation, at the heart of which lies our experience and tradition of superior client service.
While the firm in theory has established practice areas, in reality we avoid narrow practice segmentation. We believe that lawyers who practice in diverse areas are better lawyers who provide a higher quality of service to help our clients grow and prosper. We have an internal structure and we maintain a culture that recognizes and encourages individuality.
We are committed to advancing the goals of not-for-profit organizations through our pro bono program, and we are proud of our unique partnership with The Legal Aid Society, which helps disadvantaged New Yorkers, including children, immigrants and the disabled achieve justice under the law. In December 2005, the firm was honored to receive The Legal Aid Society's Pro Bono Publico Award. Since the program's founding, our lawyers have secured much-needed benefits to dozens of our pro bono clients, and the program was recently expanded to increase our representation to New Yorkers with housing and immigration issues.
