Cahill-Mentored Brooklyn Tech Students Win City-Wide Moot Court Championship
Date: 12/23/13
Cahill coached Brooklyn Technical High School in Fordham’s annual New York Mentor Moot Court Competition. The 2013 competition involved a mock appellate oral argument concerning the validity of a stop and frisk in a criminal case. Forty-four teams from across the city participated.
After surviving competitive preliminary, quarterfinal, and semifinal elimination rounds, Brooklyn Tech advanced to the finals held on December 5 at the Thurgood Marshall Federal Courthouse in Lower Manhattan. There, the team defeated a challenging opponent to win the championship. Hon. Denny Chin of the US Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, Hon. Margo K. Brodie of the EDNY, and Hon. James Orenstein of the EDNY presided. This winter, Cahill will coach the Brooklyn Tech team in a mock trial competition concerning allegedly criminal hydraulic fracturing (fracking) practices.
