Partner Richard Kelly Joins Cahill to Lead Expansion of the Firm’s Litigation Practice in London
Partner Richard Kelly has joined Cahill Gordon & Reindel (UK) LLP to lead the expansion of Cahill’s litigation practice in London. Cahill Gordon & Reindel (UK) LLP was authorized as a licensed body by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (“SRA”) in March.
“I am excited to be joining Cahill’s highly regarded litigation practice. It has for many years been at the forefront of assisting clients to deal successfully with the wide variety of contentious issues that they face,” says Kelly. “Building a litigation capacity here in London is a natural complement not only to the firm’s outstanding litigation team in the US, but also to the London office’s existing practice which has served many of the same clients in finance transactions for more than a decade.”
London and New York City are the two most important litigation and financial markets in the world, and their interconnectivity means that a major litigation or regulatory problem in one frequently resonates in the other. “Many companies facing this type of transatlantic problem prefer working with just one firm that has not only substantial experience with the specific legal issues at hand, but also deep local expertise in both jurisdictions,” Kelly says. “I’m glad to be part of that offering at Cahill.”
Kelly has represented financial institutions and large corporates on a broad range of disputes. His practice has a particular focus on acting for investment banks on complex litigation, investigations and risk management mandates on issues such as benchmark setting, rogue traders, mis-selling and securities fraud. He has also acted on some of the largest commercial arbitrations to date. As well as being a solicitor of the Senior Courts of England and Wales, Kelly is also admitted to practice in the State of New York.
“Richard is an accomplished lawyer whose leadership and experience will strengthen our litigation capabilities in London,” says William M. Hartnett, chairman of Cahill’s Executive Committee. “Our expanding London presence is a direct response to the needs of our clients. We are pleased that the SRA has authorized Cahill Gordon & Reindel (UK) LLP as a licensed body. Our authorization from the SRA enables our US and UK practices to work together more effectively and to provide a comprehensive litigation service across those key markets.”
Cahill opened its London office in 2000 and recently moved to larger premises in the City as part of the ongoing expansion of its litigation and corporate practices.
