Sean Tonolli Authors Compliance Week Article on Transitioning from DOJ to In-House Investigations Roles

June 22, 2026

Cahill partner Sean Tonolli authored an article for Compliance Week discussing the key mindset shifts former U.S. Department of Justice prosecutors and law enforcement agents should make when transitioning to in-house roles overseeing internal investigations.

The article, titled “From DOJ to In-House: Five Mindset Shifts for Success in Internal Investigations,” draws on insights from a panel Sean moderated at Compliance Week’s 2026 National Conference in Washington, D.C. The article examines how former government investigators can adapt their approach to meet the practical demands of corporate investigations, including moving away from the instinct to pursue every lead and instead conducting tailored, efficient investigations designed to help companies make informed and defensible decisions.

Reflecting on the transition from government service to corporate investigations, Sean noted, “Prosecutors and agents who move in-house benefit from their DOJ playbook but will only shine once they learn when and why to close it.”
