Floyd Abrams Publishes “The Promise and Peril of Facial Recognition” in the Wall Street Journal
Floyd Abrams co-authored an article in the Wall Street Journal, “The Promise and Peril of Facial Recognition,” discussing how various law-enforcement agencies are using facial-recognition technology, specifically Clearview AI app, to identify members of the mob that led the assault on the Capital on January 6, 2021. Currently Clearview AI, "the U.S. facial-recognition startup that became controversial a year ago when its existence came to light in the media," has clientele limited to law-enforcement agencies. Their technology allows clients to run photos of unidentified persons through a database and create "faceprints" of the photo's subject. "The question for policy makers is how to regulate this technology to allow its legitimate use and prevent abuse."
