June 22, 2026
Cahill Gordon & Reindel LLP today announced that Patrick M. Lafferty has joined the firm as a partner in its Technology Intellectual Property (IP) Litigation practice in Washington, D.C. His arrival further expands Cahill's rapidly growing Technology IP platform and enhances the firm's capabilities in high-stakes patent litigation, PTAB proceedings, and technology-focused disputes.
“Patrick is a great addition to the firm and to our Technology IP team,” said Herb Washer, Chair of Cahill's Executive Committee. “His practice is highly complementary to our strategic priorities, and his experience will further strengthen our ability to advise clients on complex intellectual property matters.”
Patrick has extensive experience in all aspects of patent litigation and counseling. He advises clients on a broad range of technologies and critical matters involving cybersecurity, fiber optics, wireless communication technologies and standards, semiconductors, artificial intelligence, encryption and network security, distributed networks, telecommunications, software applications, FinTech and Standard Essential Patents.
In addition to trying cases in patent venues across the United States, he is a registered patent attorney at the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). Holding a degree in electrical engineering, Patrick brings a strong technical background to patent disputes involving some of today's most sophisticated technologies.
Patrick joins a group that includes partners Chris Campbell, Chair of Cahill’s Technology IP Litigation practice, Britton Davis and Alfonso Garcia Chan. The trio, who joined Cahill in April 2025, each has a leading trial practice focused on protecting clients’ technology innovations. Together, they form a deep bench of experienced technology and intellectual property litigators with a track record of handling complex, high-stakes disputes, often leading to jury trials.
“Patrick’s arrival enhances our ability to meet growing client demand in intellectual property litigation,” said Gerald J. Flattmann Jr., Co-Chair of Cahill’s Life Sciences Patent Litigation practice group and Co-Chair of the Intellectual Property practice groups. “His experience handling complex patent disputes and technology-focused matters will be a great asset to our clients. He is a tremendous addition to our intellectual property team.”
“Patrick combines deep technical knowledge with sophisticated litigation and trial expertise in some of the most complex technologies and patent venues in the country. Clients value his record of success in complex tech IP cases. On a personal level, we are excited to have Patrick as our colleague again,” added Campbell.
“I am thrilled to be reuniting with Chris, Brit, and Alf and to be joining the broader team at Cahill,” said Lafferty. “The opportunity to work alongside talented and accomplished IP trial lawyers, combined with Cahill’s sophisticated platform for helping clients protect and enforce their IP rights, made Cahill the right place for the next chapter of my practice. I am excited to be part of the team and contribute to the continued growth of the practice.”
Patrick received his J.D. with high honors from George Washington University Law School, where he was a member of the Order of the Coif, and a B.S. in electrical engineering, cum laude, from the University of Maryland.
